Marcus was introduced to brokerage at an early age, through his father who ran a brokerage on Texel. Despite growing up here, Marcus did not feel a strong connection to Texel itself.
He moved to Alkmaar for his studies and still enjoys living here. Marcus’ ambition and skills led him to an executive position as branch manager of VLIEG Makelaars Alkmaar, where he continued to expand his knowledge and experience.

Breaking in new staff
One of his important tasks is inducting new staff. Through his approximately 20 years of experience in brokerage, Marcus understands better than anyone that this profession is based primarily on experience. The gap between theory and practice is significant, and he is committed to not only theoretically educating his colleagues, but also actively taking them into daily practice. His philosophy is that you do it together, an approach that has contributed to the strength and success of VLIEG.

Marcus himself says the following: “On Texel at my father’s estate agency, it didn’t matter at all which trade association the office belonged to. Clients almost always came to my father through verbal recommendations. This also happens with Marcus, but because Alkmaar and the surrounding area has many more inhabitants, he is very aware of how important online reviews are. Marcus: “Nowadays you always have to be sharp and supervise customer expectations extra well. But that is just fine, because that is what we are good at and that is what VLIEG is known for.”
What makes Marcus Kuip happy?
The satisfaction Marcus derives from his profession is inseparable from the joy and satisfaction of his customers. He enjoys it when he can make a customer – the client – visibly happy. An example is when he manages to purchase a property, originally priced at 500,000 euros, for 480,000 euros, while the client was willing to go up to 490,000 euros. It is this form of success, exceeding the customer’s expectations, that gives him a sense of accomplishment.
For Marcus, the most enjoyable aspect is the emotion involved in his craft. The core business of his work, the sale and purchase of existing buildings and new construction, puts him in situations where, on the one hand, he must professionally and objectively assess what a property is worth, and on the other, take into account what a house means personally to the client. This balance between professional acumen and personal commitment makes success in his work not only a business triumph, but also a personal victory.
What is your greatest success story?
Marcus: “When I look back on my career, I can’t point to a single success story as the greatest. What really makes my work worthwhile is that I always manage to add value. It is my goal to always recoup, and preferably exceed, the investment my clients make in me.”
Marcus thus ensures that his customers are never disappointed or regret their decision, according to reviews. He always makes sure they have a realistic picture of the situation. “The customer has to be 100% behind the purchase. After all, they have to live there!” says Marcus.
