Joyce Bouman is commercial assistant at VLIEG Makelaars in Amsterdam. With her positive energy, service orientation and commercial acumen, she makes customers feel heard and helped. “It’s important to me that everyone walks out the door feeling good and knowing that all questions have been answered,” Joyce says with a smile.
Originally from Heemstede, but now Amsterdam feels like her second home. Her career began in the automotive, after her studies at the IVA Driebergen. “I always had an interest in real estate. The dynamics of brokerage really appealed to me: no day is the same and you’re constantly working with people on the move.” After more than two years of experience in the industry, she found her niche at VLIEG, and she likes it very much.
What does Joyce Bouman mean to VLIEG?
Joyce is the first point of contact for clients at the VLIEG Amsterdam office. She supports the brokers in a variety of activities:
- the scheduling appointments,
- the managing the agendas,
- the receiving customers in the branch office,
- and the answering phone calls and questions.
“My goal is for everything to run smoothly behind the scenes so that the brokers can focus fully on their clients,” Joyce explains. “I want to unburden them in every possible way.”
No day is the same: the amount of tasks varies, but the end goal remains the same – structure, clarity and satisfied customers. Joyce feels responsible for ensuring that her colleagues go into the day well prepared, and that at the end of the day everything is neatly completed.
For what qualities is Joyce known?
Joyce is known as service-oriented, stress-resistant and solution-oriented. She shifts gears quickly, is eager to learn and always willing to go the extra mile. “I always try to think three steps ahead,” she says. “That helps avoid problems and see opportunities.”
Her colleagues especially appreciate her empathy and calmness. When someone calls irritated, Joyce always manages to end the conversation on a positive note – often with a smile on the other end of the line. That combination of commercial acumen and human sensitivity makes her an important member of the team.

Joyce becomes happy when the people around her are happy. A good working atmosphere, a tidy office and a ticked off to-do list give her satisfaction. She enjoys seeing the customer journey up close and support customers every step of the way.
Outside of work hours, she finds relaxation in strength training, eating out with family and friends, shopping and vacations with her family. “Playing sports and spending time with the people who are important to me give me new energy,” she says.
