Wendy Terpstra is Commercial Assistant Internal Services at VLIEG Mortgages at the head office in Alkmaar. She is a true West-Frisian and lives in Bovenkarspel. Through Job, Manager Brokerage at VLIEG, she came in contact with the organization. At that time she was not actively looking for a new job and did not immediately envision working in Alkmaar. Still, the move turned out well. Wendy has now been working at VLIEG for almost 5 years and enjoys it immensely.
Wendy has been in the mortgage business for 25 years. Her interest in mortgages began quite by accident. After her first job, she was looking for an office job and came across a job opening at a mortgage broker. Before the interview, she immersed herself in mortgages and was hired. She hasn’t left the profession since. At VLIEG, Wendy ensures that mortgage applications run smoothly and that customers are taken care of as much as possible. Outside of work hours, she enjoys engaging in interior styling, photography and DIY. Her husband, children and family are also very important to her.
What does Wendy mean to VLIEG?
Wendy is an important force within the inside sales department of VLIEG Mortgages. She handles a large part of the mortgage applications of Guido from Amstelveen and ensures that files are carefully prepared before they go to the bank. She checks the documents that customers submit, assesses whether everything is complete and adds a clear explanation where necessary.
Wendy also has a lot of contact with notaries, brokers, lenders, clients and consultants. Her work requires overview, speed and accuracy. Although the work may seem manageable on paper, the continuous flow of new applications, complex files and changing conditions ensure that no day is the same.
Wendy’s goal is clear: to unburden clients and help as many people as possible make their housing dreams come true. Because of her knowledge and experience, she knows exactly what a lender needs to properly assess an application. This makes her a support not only for clients, but also for the mortgage advisors within VLIEG.

Wendy is known as a go-getter with a lot of knowledge and a flexible attitude. She knows how to adapt quickly, thinks along in complex situations and looks for ways to complete files in the best possible way. The cooperation within the team also makes her happy. The atmosphere in the department ensures that the work does not always feel like work to her. There is a lot of knowledge in house, colleagues are there for each other and together we often manage to bring even difficult cases to a successful conclusion.
Outside of work, Wendy especially enjoys her husband, children and family. She also enjoys interior styling, photography and DIY. This creative and practical approach is also reflected in her work: taking a good look, thinking along with her and looking for the best solution.
What is Wendy's greatest success story?
For Wendy, it remains special that she gets to help finance a housing project. She is proud of the knowledge that exists within the office of VLIEG. That knowledge makes it possible to support complex cases well and to complete files that sometimes remain unfinished at other offices. Think, for example, of applications for expats or pilots, which require additional knowledge and explanation.
One success story that has always stuck with her is about a blended family who wanted to move back to the area where the children’s co-parent lived. Due to a heavy BKR code, the bank initially rejected the application. Instead of referring the client directly to a specialized organization, Wendy decided to see for herself what was possible. By communicating openly and informally with the customers, she was able to summarize the story well towards the credit company. With success.
In recent years, Wendy has done this more than once for clients with similar situations. With positive results in all cases. She is proud of that. For her, this shows exactly what her work is all about: knowledge, commitment and the will to help clients move forward.
